Another critical component of any informed luxury vehicle purchase involves considering the reliability of a given brand. After all, nobody enjoys dealing with unexpected inconveniences or surprise repair bills from breakdowns or component failures. Naturally, you’d only want the best-of-the-best when it comes to reliability. Once again, this is a category in which Audi is the clear choice over Mercedes-Benz. For 2025, Consumer Reports carefully scrutinized the reliability of top brands from all across the industry. Audi finished 7th out of 32 brands overall and 4th out of 15 luxury brands. Mercedes-Benz struggled mightily in this category with an overall finish of 23rd out of 32 brands overall and 11th out of 15 luxury brands**.

Electric cars have been a major area of development for luxury brands and both Audi and Mercedes-Benz have introduced multiple electric models in recent years. We're taking a look at the flagship models from both brands to see how the EV technology differs. Right from the start, we can see a sizable difference in performance. A lot of this is raw horsepower but the Audi also has a unique transmission setup, a two-speed transmission for the rear wheels that gives it a performance advantage over other EVs. While EVs tend to be heavy, Audi has a history of lightweight construction techniques that means that the S e-tron GT is more than 700 pounds lighter than the EQS Sedan.
The fact that the Audi S e-tron GT has the ability to charge at 320 kW doesn't just outdo the EQS, it's the highest charging wattage of any electric vehicle on the market. This is why, even when starting at 5% charge, the S e-tron GT can hit 80% much faster than the EQS will starting from 10%. It's one of a number of things the S e-tron GT does just that extra bit better than the EQS along with things like a more sophisticated climate control system, wheel locks, and a more robust term of roadside assistance coverage
