The snow in Michigan is serious business, the sort of thing that influences lifestyle decisions, especially the kinds of vehicles we drive. But long gone are the days when a vehicle that was good in the snow had to be all function and no form or comfort. Today, you can have a luxury vehicle that’s as great in the snow as it is comfortable and well-equipped, and the brand leading the charge is unquestionably Audi. Here’s what you need to know about buying a Michigan winter-ready luxury vehicle.

Audi Quattro Snow

Which Audi Models Are Good In The Snow?

The short answer to this is all of them, as every Audi model has either standard or available quattro® all-wheel drive. This is a system first developed by Audi in 1976, specifically to deal with snow, as the first permanent AWD system for passenger cars. The system was refined in the crucible of Group B rally racing, where Audi absolutely dominated in the early 80s. It has evolved further over the years to include part-time systems, multi-plate clutch full-time systems, and dual-motor electric drivetrains that send power to all four wheels (also known as e-quattro®), all under the quattro® banner. But while there are no wrong choices with the Audi lineup, there are still a few standouts for those who are especially tired of being hampered by harsh winter conditions.

Audi Q7

2026 Audi Q7

Key Features

  • Starting at $62,000 MSRP*
  • Standard quattro® all-wheel drive
  • Standard 2.0 TFSI® I4 with 261 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque
  • HD Matrix-design LED headlights with available Audi laser light

While technological advances have made smaller vehicles much better in the snow than before, larger (and heavier) vehicles do still have an advantage when it comes to keeping the tires gripping the road. As the largest vehicle in the Audi lineup, this is one of the areas where the Q7 shines. Of course, that’s not all; it also has a spacious interior, available V6 power (or a V8, if you choose the SQ7), and standard adaptive cruise control. The Q7 comes with quattro® as standard, and whichever engine you choose will come mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic® automatic transmission. Since visibility is also an issue in the winter, the HD Matrix-design LED headlights, which are available with Audi laser light, help make sure that you can see better in all sorts of conditions.

Audi Q6 e-tron

2025 Audi Q6 e-tron quattro®

Key Features

  • Starting at $65,800 MSRP* (for the dual motor quattro® configuration)
  • All-electric drivetrain with 456 horsepower
  • Range of up to 307 miles (AWD with 19-inch wheels)
  • Available adaptive air suspension

The Q6 e-tron might be a bit smaller than the Q7, but since EVs are heavier, on average, than their gas-powered counterparts, you'll feel just as planted as you would in the bigger SUV. Not only that, but the weight of the battery pack is much more evenly distributed than the weight of an internal combustion engine, which is a big plus for traction. There is a rear-wheel drive version with a lower starting price that is still good in the snow, but if you want the best possible traction, the quattro® configuration is the way to go. Available adaptive air suspension helps to further enhance traction in all conditions, while simultaneously maximizing ride comfort.

Audi A6 allroad

2026 Audi A6 allroad®

Key Features

  • Starting at $73,100 MSRP*
  • Standard quattro® all-wheel drive
  • Standard 3.0 TFSI® V6 with 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque
  • Standard HD Matrix-design LED headlights

Not everyone likes SUVs, the high seating position and center of gravity are especially tough for performance enthusiasts. But really deep snow, or a mix of snow and dirt roads, does call for a bit more ground clearance. The compromise, which has proven very popular with Audi customers, is the A6 allroad. It comes with standard V6 power, adaptive air suspension, quattro® all-wheel drive, and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. All of that is good news for enthusiasts, and the generous cargo space is a nice bonus. The A6 allroad is the way to go for a vehicle that will handle snow well, but still maximizes driving fun when the weather is nicer.
